Meet Volkswagen's Newest Line-Up of SUV Vehicles That are Bigger and Bolder Than Ever!

We realize that quite a bit of thought and consideration goes into picking an SUV for your family. We also realize the choices that you have can become overwhelming. Volkswagen released two new SUV options to appeal to families, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Both models will be offered with third-row seating. So what is the difference between the 2018 VW Atlas and Tiguan Allspace?

Difference Between New Tiguan and VW Atlas

One of the differences between the 2018 Atlas and 2018 Tiguan is size. The 2018 Atlas is just a bit larger than the Tiguan. The Atlas also features two powertrain options, compared to one in the Tiguan. The 2018 Atlas is available with a 3.6-litre VR6 engine with 276 horsepower.
While both models will have third-row seating, this is an available option for the Tiguan, but standard for the larger Atlas. You can see from the side profile that the third row could just as easily be left open for cargo in the longer Tiguan, or it could be a space best fit for children or shorter adults. The Atlas, however, will have enough third-row space to comfortably seat adults.

Engine options will also be different between the two models. Both will come standard with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, but the Tiguan will offer 184 horsepower, compared to 238 horsepower in the Atlas. There will also be a V6 option for the Atlas that isn't present for the Tiguan. If the Atlas is starting to sound like a smart option, it's time to dive into your drivetrain choices. Both models start off as front-wheel-drive, and both offer the 4motion AWD, but the Atlas only has that option for the V6. If you are banking on this feature but prefer a turbo four, you'll have to stick with the long-wheelbase Tiguan.

The newest vehicle to join the Volkswagen lineup, the all-new Atlas, is full-size and fully capable of taking on any adventure. Front wheel drive and all-wheel drive models are available, while the Atlas can also be equipped with two different engines. Its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is capable of producing 238 horsepower while the 3.6L V6 jumps up to 280 HP. Either way, both engines are mated to an eight-speed transmission to maximize power and fuel efficiency.

Like the all-new Atlas, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan lists front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. This is a big year for the Tiguan as it enters its second generation of production. Its 2.0L turbo has been tweaked and fine-tuned to be more efficient than years before but still helps the Tiguan to remain more powerful than others in its class. (Capable of towing a maximum of 2,200 lbs, the Tiguan is able to out-tow a majority of midsize crossovers as well.)
